I’m Out of Order; You’re Out of Order!

This ethics program looks at the role of civil disobedience in society and the patrolling ethics lines for lawyers in contentious political and social cases, so that the lawyers do not transgress boundaries. In the realm of civil disobedience activities, we look at the lawyer’s duties in counseling, participating and then litigating in such cases. Specific cases include the Chicago 7 case from the 1960s and the lawyer contempt charges as well as the Harry Bridges’ lawyer imprisonment charges for the 1940s Cold War communist cases, as well as other modern cases stemming from our recent civil protests era.
